On the final weekend in April in the sunny south of France, motorcycle enthusiasts will be gathering in Provence for four days of GS-themed activities and exhibitions, as well as the staging of the French GS Trophy selection trials.
Everyone is invited to attend, as the plan is to give this free event an international flavour – all that’s needed is a passion for the GS lifestyle. As such, an English language page has been created on the www.gs-days.com website describing the event and how you can become involved.
GS Days 2012 begins on Saturday 28 April at the picturesque Chateau de Massillian at Uchaux, in the Orange region. Those who wish to camp can pitch their tents in the free campsite in the grounds of the castle, while those who prefer a bit more luxury can choose from a comprehensive list of hotels in the area.
There are loads of activities to choose from, including test rides of all the 2012 BMW Motorrad models; test rides of Husqvarna motorcycles, including the Nuda 900 R and various off-road machines; off-road riding demonstrations and tuition on GS-riding by Husqvarna speedbrain team rider David Frétigné; travel presentations by various GS adventurers; a prize-draw quiz; ‘best GS’ photo contest; and much more.
In addition to Dakar legend David Frétigné, special guests include Raymond Loizeaux, veteran of 22 Dakar Rallies; Herbert Schek, winner of three cross-country championship titles for BMW in the 1970s; and explorers and writers Alain Berson and Eric Massiet du Biest, who will be signing copies of their new GS Book.
Those who want to relax can just wander around the site and enjoy a variety of exhibitions and displays, including a GS lifestyle boutique; an exhibition of classic GS machines through the years; a Touratech stand; as well as official displays by BMW Motorrad France and Husqvarna Motorcycles. However, all visitors are encouraged to explore this scenic area of Provence on two wheels, so roadbooks will be provided with suggestions for visits to tourist hotspots, including Le Mont Ventoux, Les Gorges de l’Ardèche, the Château Neuf du Pape vineyards, le Pont du Gard, and much more.
What’s more, the BMW GS Days 2012 also includes an ‘event within an event’ – the second edition of the GS Trophy France competition, which will also form part of the selection procedure for the trio of riders who will represent the French nation in the International GS Trophy in South America in November.
Visitors to GS Days will be able to watch the competition unfold as all those who dream of glory and a place in the national team will battle on the Sunday and Monday in a variety of timed trials, including navigation, agility tests, team exercises and even Motoball, culminating in a grand final for the 10 best-placed competitors, followed by a prize-giving ceremony on the Monday evening.
With food available (advance booking) all weekend in the bivouac, live music and a big campfire every night, BMW GS Days 2012 is a great opportunity to meet fellow riders from all over the world for a weekend of GS fun and adventure that can be as busy or as relaxed as you want to make it.
