BMW Motorrad riders and fans have much to look forward to in 2014. In addition to new motorcycles and maxi-scooters, there is also a comprehensive collection of stylish rider clothing and equipment, designed to ensure you look good, both on and off your bike.
Modelled here by German beauty, actress and TV presenter Alena Gerber, the items come from the 2014 collection and include the new Legend helmet and goggles, PCM Jacket and t-shirts from the LOGO collection.
It’s quite possible that 2014 could be the year of the open-face helmet. After all, the Airflow 2 helmet has been a success story among maxi-scooter owners and those who ride in warm climates, and now with the recent surge in interest in customisation, expect the Legend helmet to be just as popular with those who enjoy feeling the wind in their faces while riding.
The Legend is a tribute to the classic Jet helmet, but with a retro, purist slant, courtesy of the designers at BMW Motorrad. Naturally, the safety features of this helmet are first rate, with outstanding impact absorption qualities coupled with low weight, as well as integrated neck bands to prevent it from being inadvertently removed. The high-quality workmanship features real leather trim, while the outer shell is made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic. A practical benefit is being able to remove the inner lining, head and cheek pads for cleaning.
Available in a choice of colours such as Black Storm metallic and Alpine White – as well as in ‘NineT’ trim – this retro helmet can be accompanied by classic Legend motorcycle goggles, which are also available with mirrored lenses. The Legend helmet is available in sizes 54 to 61.
As well as all the new developments, the 2014 collection also has upgrades of tried and tested products, including its functional range of clothing. Among these, the PCM Ride jacket featured here cuts a fine dash whether worn on its own or under a motorcycle jacket. Thanks to Phase Change technology, the PCM Ride jacket equalises temperature fluctuations, so when the body or ambient temperature rises, it absorbs the excess heat; and when the temperature drops, it releases the stored heat again.
The PCM Ride jacket prevents the rider from getting too cold or too hot – even in extreme temperatures – so it helps maintain performance levels and thus contributes to active safety. Naturally it is also suited to sporting pursuits such as skiing, jogging or hiking. It has been given a more modern design for the new season, while wearer comfort is boosted by softshell inserts on the sides and sleeves, along with a higher collar. Two zipped side pockets with mesh lining provide storage for personal items, and the sleeves can be unbuttoned to turn the jacket into a vest whenever required.
The BMW Motorrad Style ‘Logo’ collection is targeted at all those wishing to display their passion for BMW motorcycles through smart shirts and jackets, and even items of luggage. You can’t have a fan collection without cool T-shirts either, so Alena can be seen here modelling one from the Logo collection. The shoot took place in the BMW World building with the BMW C evolution, which she already experienced on a previous photo-shoot in Spain. Her thoughts on the e-scooter and the 2014 rider clothing collection?
“The latest collection is very elegant and modern, one can really wear the clothes in daily life,” she says. “I really enjoyed this shoot in the BMW Welt; it is a great place as it symbolizes the BMW brand and the BMW vehicles, and also gives a great opportunity to put the spotlight on the e-scooter in the place where the brand is celebrated. I’m a big fan of the C evolution. I was able to ride it for hours in beautiful Barcelona and it was a great pleasure, as I was able to observe things, buildings and people around me that I would not have had noticed as a tourist – and the e-scooter was a perfect companion for this experience. I am very much looking forward to the beginning of the biker season!”
