Two riders of Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport, Andreas Lettenbichler and Gerhard Forster, are set to attack the legendary Erzberg this coming weekend. The Erzbergrodeo has long established itself as the number one off road extravaganza, and the 15th addition will be no different.
About 1,500 maniacs will enter several competitions to be held inside the big mining compound at Eisenerz, Austria. Highlight of the programme will be the Red Bull Hare Scramble on Sunday, 14 June, for which the 500 quickest riders out of the prologue will be eligible.
Lettenbichler and Forster challenge the mountain aboard their BMW 450 X machines. Both riders finished inside the top ten a year ago. 'Letti' back then achieved a spectacular second place despite loosing the right foot peg early on. Even problems with the gearbox couldn't stop him. Forster completed the 2008 edition in seventh place. Only 38 riders made it to the mountain top within the allocated four-hour time limit.
Hard to imagine: the organisers claim this year's Erzbergrodeo will be even tougher than before. As if the pain wasn't unbearable already, additional rock sections have been added to the brutal course setting.
