TYRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC).
The correct tyre pressure is a crucial factor for safety and performance – especially in motorcycling. Only tyres that have the pressure recommended by the manufacturer can provide the optimal performance with reduced energy consumption. So that this requirement is fulfilled at all times, the BMW Motorrad range includes a unique RDC system with a gradient monitor for tyre pressure control.
Anyone who has ever ridden with insufficient tyre pressure knows just how much – and how dangerously – machine handling deteriorates. Of course, this is why the tyre pressure should be checked at regular intervals and before lengthier trips. A sudden or slow loss of pressure is possible at any time on the road, e.g. from damaged valves or foreign bodies, and this poses a significant risk.
The BMW Motorrad enhanced RDC with gradient monitor provides the rider with reliable information on the current tyre pressure. Because the values can be viewed conveniently on the cockpit display at the touch of a button, there is no longer any need for pressure checks at the service station, often an unpleasant task with soiled fingers. The data are supplied by radio sensors on the wheels. In addition, RDC also comes with an active warning function. As soon as a relevant departure from the setpoints is detected, a yellow info lamp or a red warning lamp automatically lights up, pointing out the pressure loss. A warning is given when the pressure is still within the safe range, but is falling rapidly. A failed sensor is also reported immediately to the rider.
The enhanced RDC is thus a key step towards greater road safety on the motorcycle.
