The newly developed, optional BMW Motorrad ASC (Automatic Stability Control) makes motorcycle even safer. As a supplement to the BMW Motorrad Integral ABS, the rider assistance system acts as a traction slip regulator. When required, it effectively reduces uncontrolled spin of the rear wheel. Of course, even ASC cannot defeat the laws of physics, so even with activated ASC a careful riding style is necessary – especially in terms of adapting speed to road conditions when banking. However, in poor conditions in particular, e.g. on a wet or bumpy surface, ASC improves ride stability and is thus another valuable safety factor for everyday riding. If electronic intervention is not desired, the system can be switched off by simply pressing a button – even during travel.
ASC will be available from the beginning of 2007.
