Australia probably really got hooked up with the Int. GS Trophy in 2018 when they sent their team to Mongolia. This time, Shaun Terblanche (31), Tysen Haley (26) and Wesley Bygate (35) are excited to meet the competition in their neighbouring country New Zealand. Shaun Terblanche from Perth is a building maintenance contractor, Tysen Haley from Yackandandah works as a builder and Wesley Bygate, who lives in Glass House Mountains, is a certified welder.

What does the “Spirit of GS” mean to you?
The Spirit of GS is all about the joy that these bikes bring to people who may not even have crossed paths otherwise. Watching others overcome obstacles, challenges and fear, building trust in fellow riders and sharing some of the most spectacular sights around the world. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces as the helmet comes off at the end of a ride, and then telling their version of events, is what it’s all about.
What made you want to learn how to ride a motorbike?
I’ve always had an interest in things with two wheels, although motorbikes did not become part of my life until my late 20’s. I was intrigued by the thought of riding a motorbike with skill, and the GS was just the right fit, many people are intimidated by the size of these bikes, but that is exactly the challenge I wanted.
What do you expect from the Int. GS Trophy 2020?
I expect to meet awesome riders from all over the world, who will become my friends, and see spectacular landscapes, sharing a week with like-minded people who are all there to challenge themselves and riding at their absolute best of their ability. I look forward to share stories and to learn from and about others and making great lifetime memories.

What does the “Spirit of GS” mean to you?
The spirit of GS would be best described as being part of a group that shares your passion and enthusiasm towards exploring the wonders of this country and world.
What made you want to learn how to ride a motorbike?
Started on the front of my mothers’ motorbike as a child, riding when she rode and falling when she fell. It only spurred the thirst for it.
What special skills do you bring to your team?
A special skill that I bring to this team is a whole lot of good luck.

What made you want to learn how to ride a motorbike?
I always wanted a motorcycle growing up as a kid, however my parents struggled to be able to afford one for me. I managed to save up my own money for years and purchased my first Z125 when I was 15 years old. That’s where the riding all began!
What is your favourite trail?
Definitely my local trails around the Glasshouse Mountains in Queensland, they differ from the usual Australian GS terrain and have a much more extreme Enduro focus. There’s an endless amount of challenging technical single trails that I love to tackle.
What will be your greatest challenge at the Int. GS Trophy 2020?
I think the greatest challenge for myself and Team Australia will be the unpredictable nature of the GS Trophy. Without knowing the challenges that we will face and what they incorporate, it will be a test to adapt as they come up. However, I love to test myself, so I can’t wait to take them all on!
