Action-packed day 3.
Another exciting and memorable riding day (370km/190km off-road) was enjoyed by all the participants of this year’s Int. GS Trophy as the entire field of international riders headed south towards their final night on the North Island. Challenging gravel roads across hills and through forests, leading to dramatic and wild coastlines, will surely leave a lasting impression on all competitors long after they have returned home.
Packing in the challenges.
Packing in the challenges.
Another early start saw the participants gather on the beach close to Castlepoint for a slalom challenge. This time, there appeared to be no advantage in going first on the undisturbed sand, as the very final team to compete (Brazil) actually set the second fastest time overall – only being narrowly beaten by the Italians!
And there’s more.
And there’s more.
The second special stage of the day – the ''Leatt Challenge'' – took place near the most southerly point of the North Island, where the Southern Ocean fiercely rolls in and crashes against the isolated and jagged White Rock. After this ‘'glove-throwing’' team special in which the Australians triumphed, it was a scenic ride back to Camp Wainui, but not to relax, because another trials parcours awaited the teams.
Everything to play for.
Everything to play for.
This special was won by Team South Africa. With three days of competition and seven specials now complete, the leaderboard is beginning to get interesting. Still leading the points table is Team Korea, with South Africa and the day winners (The Dutch) closing the gap to 11 and 12 points respectively.
